Anti- Racism Scriptures and Quotes by Topic

"Morning With Those That Mourn", by Natalie Cosby
"Heavenly Mother", by Angela Smith

Every child of God throughout the world is loved and belongs. These scriptures and quotes by General Authorities and others have been compiled to provide a tool for the cause of anti-racism. We stand behind this extensive asset of quotes and scriptures that unequivocally supports the truth that racism of any kind has no place within the practices, culture, or walls of our meetinghouses, homes, or anywhere we may be.

“If ye are prepared ye shall not fear.” (Doctrine & Covenants 38:30) We exhort you to study and keep this at hand to reference gospel truths when giving talks, commenting in second hour lessons and Church council meetings. We encourage the use of these Heaven sent words, along with artwork that reflects the true diversity of our Church, on bulletin boards, handouts, and social media, etc. to promote inclusivity everywhere.

Because of the great amount of similarities between topics in anti-racism, we invite you to study each section, as many quotes and scriptures simultaneously support multiple concepts. We are thrilled and delighted to share this vast resource of Christlike love and plead with you to use it to help us root out racism in every corner of the world!

Elder Quentin L. Cook

“Be True to God and His Work”

“In our day one of the most significant challenges is contention and verbal abuse related to societal issues. In many cases anger and abusive language have replaced reason, discussion, and civility. Many have abandoned the admonition of the Savior’s senior Apostle, Peter, to seek Christlike qualities such as temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity. They have also abando...

“Let God Prevail” – Lead Out

“I grieve that our Black brothers and sisters the world over are enduring the pains of racism and prejudice. Today I call upon our members everywhere to lead out in abandoning attitudes and actions of prejudice. I plead with you to promote respect for all of God’s children.”

Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

“All Nations, Kindreds, and Tongues”

“Our 2020 bicentennial proclamation begins with the profoundly inclusive promise that “God loves His children in every nation of the world.” To each of us in every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, God promises, covenants, and invites us to come partake of His abundant joy and goodness.God’s love for all people is affirmed throughout scripture. That love encompasses the Abrahamic covenant, g...

“Build Bridges of Cooperation”

“Simply stated, we strive to build bridges of cooperation rather than walls of segregation. As recorded in the Book of Mormon, which we esteem as a scriptural companion to the Holy Bible, the Savior invites “all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he [denies] none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; . . . all are alike unto God” (see 2 Nephi 26...

Elder Dallin H. Oaks

“Racism and Other Challenges” – Be One

“These statements by our prophet are eloquently summed up by what he said in our “Be One” celebration on June 1, 2018. Our gospel understanding “of the true brotherhood of men and the true sisterhood of women . . . inspires us with passionate desire to build bridges of cooperation instead of walls of segregation.” That is what we need for our future—for our nation, for our world, and for our in...

“His Yoke Is Easy and His Burden Is Light”

“We sing in one of our beloved hymns: “Who am I to judge another when I walk imperfectly? In the quiet heart is hidden sorrow that the eye can’t see.” Who among us might have hidden sorrows? …those questioning their faith, those who experience racial or cultural prejudice, those feeling alone, …and so many others dealing with a wide variety of challenging life experiences—often even those whose...

Elder Denelson Silva

“Courage to Proclaim the Truth”

“When we agree to believe in the truth and to follow it, and when we make an effort to become true disciples of Jesus Christ, we do not receive a certificate with a guarantee that we will not make mistakes, that we will not be tempted to walk away from the truth, that we will not be criticized, or even that we will not experience afflictions. But the knowledge of the truth teaches that when we ...

“Seeing More of Jesus In Our Lives”

“…In our lives that are often filled with questions, worries, pressures, and opportunities, our Savior’s love for us individually and as His covenant children and also His teachings and laws are available daily resources that we can depend on to be a “light which shineth, … enlighten[ing our] eyes [and] quicken[ing our] understandings.” As we seek for the blessings of the Spirit in our li...

Elder Gary E. Stevenson

“Build Upon Our Common Ground”

The Deseret News published this article about Elder Stevenson’s speech at the 2020 NAACP Conference. “Elder Stevenson said the church’s leader, President Russell M. Nelson, and the NAACP’s president Derrick Johnson, have linked arms to set an example.” “Engagement with a broader and more diverse community,” he said, “engenders individuals and groups to think outside of themselves. Ignora...

“Room in the Inn” – Miracles Occur

“…He entreats us to make His Inn a place of grace and space, where each can gather, with room for all. As disciples of Jesus Christ, all are equal, with no second-class groups. All are welcome to attend sacrament meetings, other Sunday meetings, and social events. We reverently worship our Savior, thoughtful and considerate of each other. We see and acknowledge each person. …I...
